The Broadside started in the 1970s and has been going continuously ever since. Interest in folk music waxes and wanes but the Broadside keeps going.
The whole reason that the Broadside has survived and prospered for such a long time is that it is entirely devoted to the making and enjoyment of music. We have not been constrained by the normal “clubby” aspects of most groups – and the elitism that that entails.
