Traditional, friendly folk club, very relaxed and informal. We start with some chat and tunes, then go round the circle in turn. Sing, play, or just listen, there’s no pressure to perform. We will join in unless you ask us not to…

We play English, Irish, American old timey and some Scandi tunes. If you want to play something else, great 🙂 Current instruments are guitar, banjo, lots of mandolins, harmonica, occasional fiddle, duet concertina (it’s a work in progress). We don’t mind what instrument you play (maybe not a shaky egg though, unless you can actually keep time), but everything is acoustic and unamplified.

We sing shanties, ballads, blues, old and trad, new and going to be trad one day, stuff we’ve written, weird stuff. We like Jake Thackeray and similarly styled ballads. Really, anything acoustic goes. A bit of Bob Dylan now and then. One of us started off playing Johnny Cash covers… We try and harmonise and sometimes even pull it off. We don’t use microphones in the club. You don’t have to go and stand at the front to do your turn.

Don’t think you aren’t good enough to come and have a go. When we first started we were all terrible. Nobody is born singing and playing. You learn it best by doing it and we don’t care how good or bad you are. We will most definitely appreciate you coming down and keeping the tradition alive.

No entrance fee. We don’t mind if you come in half way through, just wait by the door until the song’s finished. The Red Admiral is an Everards pub with well kept beer and a largish car park.  We are the Dunton Bassett folk club even though we haven’t met in DB for 20 years. Broughton Astley, where we now meet, is the next village along. We don’t see why we should have to change the name just because we’ve moved.
