Stanley Robertson was a nephew of the great Traveller singer Jeannie Robertson, who taught him songs herself, and he carried a vast store of ballads and stories. He left school at fourteen and spent most of his working life gutting fish on Aberdeen’s quayside, entertaining his workmates as he went. In later years he worked with the Elphinstone Institute and passed his songs on to younger singers, among them Sam Lee.
