Christine Primrose learned her first songs from her mother in Carloway on Lewis and won the Gold Medal for traditional singing at the Royal National Mòd in 1974. Her first album, Àite Mo Ghaoil on Temple Records, became a landmark of Gaelic song, and she toured America with the harper Alison Kinnaird. She has long taught Gaelic song at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on Skye.
