Singer/guitarist and ex-seaman Tawney has been a songwriter for half a century. His last successful release, NAVY CUTS (ADA101CD), was specifically of his own work but here he has selected 15 nautical tales from the past to perform. His days as a submariner are indelibly etched here: the sea with all its majesty, its enticement and its waywardness is the central force. Here’s bawdy, here’s danger, here’s happy and sad, love lost and won. These performances from a man who has lived beneath and above the waves give a special insight into how saltwater permeates this nation’s blood. Songs include “The Dark Eyed Sailor”, “Short Jacket And White Trousers”, “Gosport Nancy”, “The Sailor Cut Down In His Prime”, “The Maid On The Shore” and “The Female Cabin Boy”.
