Pembroke’s Michaelmas Fair goes back more than 700 years to a medieval royal charter that gave the town the right to hold markets and fairs, and it was once a great autumn gathering for trade. Today the showmen’s rides and stalls fill Main Street for three nights. The Mayor and the Showmen’s Guild open it on the Thursday evening, when the Town Crier reads the Cry of the Fair and bells are rung.
