Terms of use

Who we are

Folk Calendar (folkcalendar.com) is run by SAM & ALBERT’S LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 10466390, of Palmerston Street, Plymouth, PL1 5LJ. You can reach us at info@folkcalendar.com.

These terms are the rules for using the site. They are short on purpose. How we handle personal data is in our privacy policy.

Using the site

Folk Calendar is free to use. It lists folk sessions, clubs, dances, morris, customs and more, so you can find what is on near you.

Listings come from the people who run the events, from readers, and from our own research. We work to keep them right, but events change, move and stop, sometimes without anyone telling us. Please check with the organiser before you travel, especially for anything a long way away. We are not responsible for events, venues or what happens at them.

Adding and looking after listings

If you add, claim or change a listing, please make it accurate and only list events you have the right to list. You stay responsible for your event and what you say about it.

By adding something to the site, you let us publish it, and show it in our emails, calendar feeds, maps, share cards and round-ups. We may shorten or tidy it, and we may refuse, change or remove any listing, for example if it is wrong, out of date, a duplicate, or not a folk event.

Claiming a listing makes it yours to look after. We may check that a claim is genuine before we hand a listing over, and take it back if a claim turns out to be wrong.

Comments, confirmations and reports

Please be civil and keep to the event. No abuse, spam, advertising or anything unlawful. We may hold, edit or remove anything that breaks these rules, and close an account that keeps doing so.

Your account

There are no passwords: you sign in with a link we email you. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your mailbox secure and do not forward sign-in links. You can stop using the site at any time and ask us to delete your account.

Emails about what is on

We only send these if you ask for them, and you can change or stop them at any time from a link in every email. They may include a couple of promoted events near you, clearly marked.

Shop, advertising and promotions

Folk Calendar is paid for by advertising, promotions and affiliate links. The shop links to Amazon and Bookshop.org, and we may earn a commission when you buy through those links, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Adverts and promoted events are marked as such, and paying for a promotion never changes a listing’s place in search results or in your own emails.

Our content

The site’s design, text and pictures belong to us or to the people who gave them to us. You are welcome to link to any page and share it. Calendar feeds are for your own use; please ask before copying listings in bulk.

Our responsibility to you

We provide the site as it is, free of charge. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that comes from relying on a listing, from an event being cancelled or changed, or from the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude.

Changes

We may change these terms. If we do, we will update this page and the date at the top.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute, unless you live elsewhere in the UK and have the right to use your own local courts.
