Held annually on Plough Monday (the first Monday after Epiphany/January 6th), which historically marked the start of the winter ploughing season. Six men act as “horses” to pull a refurbished wooden plough through the village streets, accompanied by people in smocks, a top-hatted “squire,” musicians, and the Cambridge Morris Men. Shouting “pity the poor ploughboy” and carrying flaming torches, the group visits local homes and pubs. Traditionally, residents who refused to donate faced a playful threat to have a furrow ploughed right through their front lawn
