Ballycastle’s fair at the end of August has been held since the early 17th century and is one of Ireland’s oldest. Hundreds of traders line the streets, horses are still bought and sold, and visitors traditionally eat dulse, a dried seaweed, and yellowman, a hard honeycomb toffee.

The Diamond
The fair fills the streets round the Diamond, with the horse trading on Fairhill Street. The big trading days are the Monday and Tuesday; the Saturday brings a heavy horse show and fireworks on the seafront.
