The old manor house at Creslow, once held by the Knights Templars and Hospitallers, had a haunted chamber over its crypt and dungeon. The ghost was a lady, seldom seen but often heard by anyone who slept there, coming in by the Gothic door and walking the room in a rustling silk dress, sometimes slowly and sometimes as if in a desperate struggle. Servants would not go in without dread. Chambers tells of a guest about 1850 who scorned ghosts and slept there armed, and was found missing in the morning.
