Every year on the Sunday after Midsummer Day the Fellowship Porters of the City of London went to their church of St Mary at Hill, by Billingsgate. The rector preached them a sermon urging charity to their old and decayed brethren. During the psalms the porters went up two by two to the altar rails, where two basins stood, and put in their offerings, and the congregation followed. The money went to the aged poor of the fraternity.
