The minister of Sandwick in Orkney reported in the 1790s that his parish church had been dedicated to St Peter, and that the people still marked the saint’s day, 29 June. They abstained from working for themselves that day, though they were willing to work for anyone else who employed them. They also did no work on 3 March, the day the church had been consecrated.
