On the first day of Hilary Term the judges breakfasted with the Lord Chancellor and drove in procession to Westminster Hall, where the serjeants at law stood waiting in full wigs and gowns. The Chancellor shook hands with each serjeant in turn, calling him brother and wishing him a good term, and every judge of the three courts did the same before going into court. A Lincoln’s Inn correspondent, S. G., added that the breakfast had lately moved from the Chancellor’s house to Lincoln’s Inn Hall.
