The Smiths’ Company of Newcastle upon Tyne was ordered by its rules to meet on St Loy’s day, the feast of St Eligius, patron of smiths and farriers. Brand cited the company’s ordinary from his own History of Newcastle. He also quoted Bridges’s History of Northamptonshire on the church at Weedon Pinkney, where St Loy’s memorial was kept and many people brought their horses to be cured.

In the Ordinary of the Smiths' Company in Brand's History of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, ii. 318, the fraternity is ordered to meet on "St. Loy's day."
