Maud Karpeles

She became Cecil Sharp’s assistant in 1913 and went with him to the southern Appalachians, where they noted songs from hundreds of singers. After his death she collected in Newfoundland and published Folk Songs from Newfoundland. In 1947 she founded the International Folk Music Council, and she wrote the standard biography of Sharp.
