A. L. Lloyd

Bert Lloyd was a singer, writer and collector who shaped the English folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s. Orphaned young, he worked on Australian sheep stations and whaling ships before turning to journalism and broadcasting. His book Folk Song in England became a standard work, and his recordings of industrial and sea songs, often made with Ewan MacColl, influenced a generation of singers.
