Alan Hull cofounded Lindisfarne, the Tyneside folk rock band, in 1970 and was its main songwriter and one of its lead voices. He also made solo albums and was a committed Labour activist who played benefit gigs for striking miners and shipyard workers. He died suddenly at 50 while working on his last album, Statues and Liberties.
