Alison Kinnaird took up the Scottish harp at fourteen, when the instrument was close to dying out. In 1978 she made The Harp Key, the first recording of tunes written for the harp, and she later wrote The Tree of Strings, a history of the harp in Scotland, with Keith Sanger. She has taught widely and is also a celebrated glass engraver.
