McGlynn was the guitarist who first brought the steel string guitar to the front of Irish traditional music. He played with Planxty, Patrick Street, De Dannan and Van Morrison’s band, and made duo records with the piper Liam O’Flynn and with his wife, the fiddler Nollaig Casey. TG4 gave him a lifetime achievement award in 2016.
