Barney McKenna was a founder of The Dubliners and the last of the original lineup, marking fifty years with the band in the year he died. His driving tenor banjo, played with a grip all his own, joined John Sheahan’s fiddle as the backbone of the group’s sound. He made his home in Howth, where he kept trawlers and loved to fish.
