Bob Scarce was a Blaxhall man who spent twenty five years in nearby Snape. Until his death he was the oldest man living in Blaxhall who had been born there. Keith Summers visited the Ship several times before he heard him sing, and counted him among England’s greatest traditional singers. He had a strikingly individual declamatory style and a fine store of ballads.
