Known as the golden voice of the Highlands, Calum Kennedy grew up on a Lewis croft and won the Gold Medal at the National Mòd in 1955. He went on to sing in the Bolshoi theatre and before Nikita Khrushchev. He built a long career of road shows, recordings and Grampian Television appearances, and he bought the Tivoli in Aberdeen and the Palace in Dundee to keep variety theatre alive.
