Dónal Maguire was born in Drogheda in 1948 and moved to England at fifteen. Drawn to the old unaccompanied style of singers such as Joe Heaney, he became a resident at the Singers Club in London before settling in Lancashire in 1976. A fine mandolin and tenor banjo player as well as a singer, he has recorded since 1977, and his album The Star of Sunday’s Well was among Melody Maker’s albums of 1979.
