Edward Bunting was apprenticed as a boy to the organist of St Anne’s in Belfast. At nineteen he was hired to write down the music of the harpers at the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792, and his later collecting tours and published collections are credited with saving much of the old Irish harp repertoire.
