Known to everyone as Mrs Crotty, she grew up playing concertina with her sister at house dances in west Clare, then ran a pub on the Square in Kilrush with her husband Miko. In the 1950s she became one of the best loved traditional players in Ireland through radio, and was president of the county’s first Comhaltas branch. Her RTÉ recordings were later issued on record.
