Born James Henry Miller in Salford, Ewan MacColl was a singer, songwriter, actor and activist who did much to shape the British folk revival. He wrote Dirty Old Town and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, and with Charles Parker and Peggy Seeger made the Radio Ballads for the BBC. He also helped found the Singers Club in London.
