Fred Jordan started work on the land at fourteen and stayed a farm worker all his life in rural Shropshire. Alan Lomax recorded him in the 1940s. He went on to sing at the Royal Festival Hall and at festivals up and down the country, while living simply in his cottage at Aston Munslow. The English Folk Dance and Song Society gave him its Gold Badge in 1995.
