Gavin Greig was a schoolmaster at Whitehill, near New Deer, who spent his spare time gathering the songs of Aberdeenshire. Working with the Reverend James Bruce Duncan, he built up a collection of more than 3,000 songs and tunes, later published in eight volumes. He also wrote the popular Doric play Mains Wooin’.
