Gillian Welch

Gillian Welch was born in New York City and adopted by the entertainers Ken and Mitzie Welch, who moved the family to Los Angeles when she was three. With the guitarist David Rawlings she writes spare, dark songs rooted in Appalachian and bluegrass music, starting with the album Revival in 1996. She sang on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, and the pair release their records on their own Acony label.
