Gordeanna McCulloch came to song at Rutherglen Academy, where Norman Buchan taught English as the folk revival gathered pace. She sang with the Glasgow band The Clutha on their albums of the 1970s and became one of the most respected ballad singers of her generation. Many younger Scottish singers owe their start to her encouragement.
