Ian A. Anderson played country blues on the Bristol scene and set up the Village Thing label in 1969. In 1979 he co-founded the Southern Rag, which grew into Folk Roots and then fRoots, for decades an essential magazine for folk and world music. He also helped coin the term world music in 1987.
