Known as The Professor, Morrison emigrated from County Sligo to New York in 1915 and won the fiddle competition at the New York Feis three years later. He was one of the city’s busiest teachers of Irish music, and his 78s, shipped home in large numbers, spread the south Sligo style across Ireland. The flute player John McKenna was his best known duet partner.
