Jeannie Robertson

Jeannie Robertson grew up in an Aberdeen family of Traveller stock, and her mother was a singer. Hamish Henderson found her in 1953, and she was soon recognised as the finest ballad singer of her generation. Many later performers took up her I’m a Man You Don’t Meet Every Day. In 1968 she was made MBE, the first folk singer and the first Traveller to receive it.
