Jock Duncan grew up on Aberdeenshire farms and could plough with horses by the age of ten, a life he brought to his bothy ballads and muckle sangs. He won his first bothy ballad contest in 1975. Over many years he also recorded the memories of First World War soldiers, published as Jock’s Jocks. He was the father of the pipers Gordon and Ian Duncan.
