Joe Burke

Joe Burke was raised near Loughrea in a house full of music, began playing the accordion at four and won the All Ireland senior title in 1959 and 1960. He lived in New York for a spell in the 1960s and could also play fiddle, flute and pipes. He received Gradam an Chomhaltais in 2003, and fellow musicians called him a north star for the tradition.
