Joe Heaney

Joe Heaney grew up in Carna in Connemara and learned hundreds of songs there as a child. He left Ireland in 1949 and made records for Topic in London. After singing at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 he settled in New York. In his last years he taught at the University of Washington in Seattle, and Carna holds a festival in his memory every year.
