John Watt grew up in a musical Dunfermline family and came to folk song through jazz, blues and skiffle after national service. In 1961 he and Jack Beck opened the Dunfermline Howff folk club, which hosted Jeannie Robertson, Bert Jansch and the Incredible String Band. His song Pittenweem Joe appeared in Norman Buchan’s songbook, and he was a leading light of the touring Great Fife Road Show.
