Katharine Briggs was a folklorist and writer whose four volume dictionary of British folk tales in the English language is still a standard work. She also wrote The Anatomy of Puck, An Encyclopedia of Fairies and the children’s novel Hobberdy Dick. She was president of the Folklore Society, which named its annual book award after her.
