Gaelic singer and teacher; Bannal

Kenna Campbell grew up in a singing crofting family in Greepe on Skye and won the Gold Medal at the 1959 National Mòd. A teacher by profession, she sang with the family group Na h-Eilthirich, and in 1990 she founded Bannal, a women’s group devoted to waulking songs. She was made an MBE in 2017 for promoting Gaelic language, music and education. She is the mother of the singer Mary Ann Kennedy.
