Kirsty MacColl was born in Croydon. Her father was the folk singer Ewan MacColl and her mother was the dancer Jean Newlove. She wrote They Don’t Know, which was a hit for Tracey Ullman, and had hits of her own with A New England and Days. Her duet with The Pogues on Fairytale of New York is still played every Christmas. She died in a boating accident while diving off Cozumel in Mexico.
