Margaret Barry came from a Cork Traveller family of musicians. She taught herself the banjo, was busking at fourteen, and sang her way around the fairs of Ireland. In the 1950s she moved to London and became a vivid presence on the folk scene there, later appearing at Carnegie Hall. Her She Moved Through the Fair is still remembered.
