Pádraig O’Keeffe

The son of a schoolmaster, O’Keeffe briefly ran the national school at Glountane before giving it up in 1920 for a life of fiddle playing and teaching around Sliabh Luachra. He wrote tunes for his many pupils in a notation of his own devising, and taught Denis Murphy, Julia Clifford and Johnny O’Leary. Séamus Ennis recorded him in the late 1940s, and those broadcasts made his name far beyond Kerry.
