Born
17 April 1936, South Uist, Scotland (90)

Rona Lightfoot grew up in a South Uist ceilidh house, where her father was a piper and storyteller and her mother held a treasury of songs. She took up the pipes as a child, studied with Angus Campbell and campaigned for women to be allowed to compete, becoming the first woman to play in the Bratach Gorm in London.
