Begley grew up in a musical family in Baile na bPoc on the Dingle peninsula and first recorded with his sister Máire in 1973. His album Meitheal with guitarist Steve Cooney, made in 1992, changed how many heard dance music, and Ragairne with Jim Murray followed in 2001. A fine singer as well as a box player, he was TG4’s singer of the year in 2013.
