Sheila Stewart came from a celebrated family of Perthshire Travellers and inherited a vast store of ballads and stories from her mother, Belle Stewart. She sang with great power and feeling, and carried her tradition to festivals, universities and even the White House. She was made an MBE and wrote books about Traveller life.
