Tom Paxton was born in Chicago and grew up in Bristow, Oklahoma. He studied drama, and after the army he went to New York. He became one of the main songwriters in the Greenwich Village folk clubs of the early 1960s, and Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Johnny Cash all recorded his songs. He first toured Britain in 1965 and has come back almost every year since.
