Tomás Ó Canainn was born outside Derry and made his career in Cork, where he became Dean of Engineering at University College Cork. A piper, accordion player and singer, he founded Na Filí with Matt Cranitch and Tom Barry, and after Seán Ó Riada’s death he took over the Irish music lectures at UCC.
