Almanac Day at Stationers’ Hall

22 November · Stationers' Hall, London

No longer kept

On or about 22 November the Stationers’ Company issued the next year’s almanacs from its hall off Ludgate Street. When the clock struck the gates were thrown open and an army of porters rushed in, seized the canvas bags of almanacs piled on the tables and floor, and within an hour or two had them on the railways to every town and parish in England.

The day on which the Stationers' Company issue their almanacs to the public (on or near the 22d November) presents a very animated and exciting scene
