A correspondent who collected the superstitions still current in 1831 found respectable tradesmen and merchants who would not do business, be bled or take physic on a Friday, because it was an unlucky day. Others would not marry on a Friday, and some thought any child born on that day was doomed to misfortune. It was also a popular belief that dreams dreamed on a Friday night and told on the Saturday would surely come true.
