The Book of Knowledge named six days of the year as perilous of death, when no one should be let blood or take any drink: 3 January, 1 July, 2 October, the last day of April, 1 August and the last day of December. The last three were the worst, because the veins were then full, and anyone who ate goose on one of them would die within forty days. Brand quotes the chapbook’s account of the perilous days of every month.
